Switching to led for 4x4. HLG Scorpion?

i like my hps but wanting to jump into the LED game to see if all the talk is worth it. Lots of great grows that I’ve seen. Problem I’m having is the amount of conflicting info out there and all the options. As soon as I’m ready to pull the trigger on something I end up getting interested in another’s light. 4x4 Space, 7 foot tall ceiling. Heat can be an issue in the summer for me. Was mainly looking at hlg 600 r and the hlg scorpion 600. The scorpion can be set much closer. Not sure if I have enough height for the 600 r spec Since it puts out more heat. Plants are typically around 2.5 feet tall in my flower room. Anyone ran either of these lights or have suggestions? I’m willing to spend.

So I have a 350r. I run it 10" off the top of the canopy(same as the 315cmh on either side)[experiment on hlg 350r covering a 3x5 15" off the canopy in flower]). When I read about hlg 650r it says 36" canopy space(Not sure what to think). I also read that the Scorpion Diablo recommends 12"-18". I can not comment on the 350r other than it is pretty close to claims so far. There is more heat emitted in my space by the led fixture compared to a vertical 315 cmh by a small amount(according to inkbird) Smoke and mirrors, but not. 315cmh do very well at 2.5' spacing. If you exceed 32" in a row width at 30" spacing then no results will diminish.

How do you like the cmh vs the led?

I just got a Grower's Choice E680 for my 4x4 and I love it. For the price I think its hard to beat.
Growers choice has been another company I’ve looked at. People seem happy with them. I’ve been running a 600 watt hps in a 4x4 with a few old cfls in the back corners where the light isn’t quite intense enough. I’m ready for an nice even spread of light over the area

Timber also makes a 540 watt bar fixture that's worth a look. Just 301s though, no red.

If you’re worried about heat, get bar lights. I went with some 720w fixtures from alibaba and they put off virtually zero heat. Had a few run away colas that pretty much grew into the light and didn’t burn. If you want a brand name growers choice, fluence, gavita or amare are all solid options.

I have not found a UL/ ETL listed bar light that are set up to replace vertical 315cmh. Closest I have found is a Phantom LED...

If you’re ok going with alibaba stuff, there are some 4 bar setups out there. A lot of the lesser known “name brand” LEDs out there are white box products from alibaba with a weed themed sticker slapped on them for branding. Grow Generation (big west coast hydro store chain) is selling lights from a company called Ion that they claim is their store exclusive. I saw it in person and it’s 100% an alibaba light.

A lot of the factories on Alibaba claim UL/ETL certification. Mine claim to be. No clue if it’s legit or not and I’m not even sure how to check. There are a few reputable vendors on there that people have had good luck with. I tried to save a few bucks and went with an unknown vendor and had some issues but I’m still happy with my purchase. The lights are very well built and are still going strong almost a year later.

I did not go with HLG I did my own strip light build. But if I were to buy a light it would probably be that. They have a high hanging distance of about 30" (I like head room). And just about every pic you ever see posted is great looking plants under those lights.

Also they post all their efficiency data and calculators on their website which is great.

The ALI Baba Chinese stuff comes with specs that don't match at all. They lie about the diodes they are using. I've chatted to hundreds of agents on Ali Baba. That being said they still probably grow good weed too.

Right..I have no interest in Ali Baba. Hlg scorpion diablo is high up there in my considerations. Growers choice or Timber bar lights are the other top two right now. Wish there was more info on the eye hortilux LED’s bar fixtures. I’m a big fan of the eye hortilux super hps bulb. Best single ended hps bulb out there
