I am about to order 7 240 watt quantum boards, since you have experience with both would you say these are better then the bavas?
Depends on your function. The Bava’s are great for a 2 x 2 or 3 x 3.
For a 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 I would use bars like the MJ-650.
I use two custom 10 bar Meijiu Majo’s (bar lights as well) over a 9 x 5. Watching that perform at canopy level had me switching out the Bava’s after only two runs.
Better spread, more even spread.
I had 3 - 240 watt Bava’s going in a 4 x 4. Pain in the ass adjusting them. Have to adjust their location and dim them individually to get a decent even spread.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Bava’s. I still have two of them.. but for me personally they are for smaller areas... dimmed.
They kick ass on HID.
LED’s have come a long way. Looks like the manufacturer’s have finally caught on we want MORE LED’s spaced out over a larger area.
More efficient, easier on the LED’s lifespan, better spread, and can run them closer.
The MJ-650 has 2500 LED’s. Each Bava has about 250 LED’s.
Do the math on that and you’ll see anything 4 x 4 and above the best bet is a MJ-650 or similar fashion bar light.
What sets apart the MJ-650 from the other bar lights is their slightly larger dimensions. It “just” fits in a 4 x4. Also 8 bars is better than 6 for uniformity. Just my 2 cents.
Oh and to add, bar lights have a sweet spot. You can run them super close and dim... but I’ve found it’s better to back them off and the spread/uniformity is better.
Too close and you get drop off between bars. (Its minimal but I’m picky) LED’s shoot damn straight I tell yah!
