The Chinese Quantum Board Knock Off Builds

First scrog. Originally under the Bava’s and now under the Meijiu MJ-650.

21”@350 watts.

Going to prune, defoil, and flip this Sunday. These lights make for a nice even canopy.

I am about to order 7 240 watt quantum boards, since you have experience with both would you say these are better then the bavas?

Can somebody help me understand if this is the right wire. I know that it’s the correct red wire but I’m confused about needing black and red wire. Do the colors matter with solid core copper?
The colors don't matter if you are careful and understand what you are doing. My QB11's are all wired up with Yellow 18 ga. blasting wire. It's the wire they use to connect all of the blasting caps in a circuit. The other wire from the drivers to the lights I use sprinkler control cable from Lowes. 7 conductor and I only need 6 conductor. It's .76 a foot. They also sell 5 and 10 conductor wire for sprinkler controls, as well as a 3 conductor for thermostats, and a 2 conductor for doorbells. I use the 7 conductor on the 320w QB 288's in parallel, 2 wires per board. The 7 colors are red, black, green, yellow, orange, blue, and white. The red, yellow, orange I use as +, and the black, blue, and white are -. I wrap the green around the cable and save it as a spare. I like the multi conductor cable because then I only have one wire running from the driver on top of the enclosure down to the light. But all of the neatness went out the window for the 4 - QB11 far red strips, they're all strung in series with Yellow wires all over the place.

Depends on your function. The Bava’s are great for a 2 x 2 or 3 x 3.

For a 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 I would use bars like the MJ-650.

I use two custom 10 bar Meijiu Majo’s (bar lights as well) over a 9 x 5. Watching that perform at canopy level had me switching out the Bava’s after only two runs.

Better spread, more even spread.

I had 3 - 240 watt Bava’s going in a 4 x 4. Pain in the ass adjusting them. Have to adjust their location and dim them individually to get a decent even spread.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the Bava’s. I still have two of them.. but for me personally they are for smaller areas... dimmed.

They kick ass on HID.

LED’s have come a long way. Looks like the manufacturer’s have finally caught on we want MORE LED’s spaced out over a larger area.

More efficient, easier on the LED’s lifespan, better spread, and can run them closer.

The MJ-650 has 2500 LED’s. Each Bava has about 250 LED’s.

Do the math on that and you’ll see anything 4 x 4 and above the best bet is a MJ-650 or similar fashion bar light.

What sets apart the MJ-650 from the other bar lights is their slightly larger dimensions. It “just” fits in a 4 x4. Also 8 bars is better than 6 for uniformity. Just my 2 cents.

Oh and to add, bar lights have a sweet spot. You can run them super close and dim... but I’ve found it’s better to back them off and the spread/uniformity is better.

Too close and you get drop off between bars. (Its minimal but I’m picky) LED’s shoot damn straight I tell yah!

I was referring to the 240 watt bava board which has 552 leds per unit and the grow space itself is a 12*8 outta which i have used a 4*8 with 4 quantum boards. Ill stick with bava due to the fact that the grow size is ever changing and its nice to be able to customize. as it stands now only 4 more kits will be used to fill in the space, the others go to veg or can go to flowering based on whats happening at the time.

Good post. What driver are you using for your (4) QB11-730s Krypto?

The weather has been typical British summer lately. Temps in the daytime were getting upto 34c, so I adjusted for lights on to 8pm to 8 am, which has brought temps down a little. Humidity has been low to high 70s, a little higher than I'd like.
The plants are still growing well, signs of calcium deficiency on a couple of the strains now even though I have been giving low doses of calmag with most feedings.
The plants are only in 10 litre fabric pots, which doesn't really hold much of a reserve for nutes, next plants shall be in either 18 or 25 litre fabric pots.
It goes to show though that you can grow successfully in organics in small pot sizes, it just takes a bit of effort.
I am running the UV for 1hr per day and the lights are turned up to 90% now, 80 for the quantum board.
Not allowing me to upload vid, I'll sort it tomorrow

Yea, I'm using 3 gallon fabric pots and organic growing. Definitely not ideal, but glad to hear someone else having success in undersized pots.

Ok getting ready for a new led order guys. Haven’t heard back from my guy Bruce so I may be going with Rita or kingbrite. I haven’t been looking too much into bars are setup for them as simple or simpler then 800 fotop boards. Before I was paying 58 per board. What’s prices looking like now? I’m considering doing 3k boards with reds or just 3k. Considering I’m going to need to light up 3-4 rooms I’m trying to cut down on added strips and small builds. Take me hours to build the frame and place them

is it OK to have 20 gauge wire connecting my 288s together but then have 18 gauge wire connecting the boards to the driver?

does this makes sense? Basically I’d rather not take the wire out of the boards unless I need to. Just extra time that I don’t want to spend. The boards I got from China came with thinner wire than 18 gauge and work fine. I’m about to extend the wire so I can move the driver out of the tent

Should be fine with the normal drive current(assuming you're running a series circuit).

I asked about them and she was trying to push full kits on me. I have asked for just boards and no heatsinks etc and she stopped replying, I reasked earlier today and still ignoring me. I first asked Sunday so they don't seem to be keen on selling them alone. Be interested if they respond to you about them.

She did 79 a board

Can I daisy chain these together instead of wiring the way the picture shows? I have the 288’s that are separated (running 120 watts max)

I don’t see the point in using the extra wire to connect the way they did. I’m assuming I can just daisychain together and then wire one board directly to the driver?
Did you ever find out what size pot you need for rosemary and basil?
