The Ukrainians are probably picking off Russian tanks, preferably by capturing them or damaging them in such a way they are abandoned, but can be repaired. The experienced troops, if given a choice would probably rather capture one than destroy one. A good way to capture lot's of armor is to destroy their fuel logistics system, no fuel no go and they become abandoned cold sitting ducks. We might be giving the Ukrainians tanks, but the Russians have been giving them more! They have made a really significant contribution to their own self destruction by supplying the captured equipment and a lot of the ammo to do it.

This is not insignificant either and with the other drones, satellite images and data, the Russian's can't make a move of even take a shit without being on a camera somewhere! HIMARS and 155 mm artillery can reach a long way from the front to the Russian rear with great precision and knowing where everybody and thing is for 100km behind their lines has it's advantages. These things and counter battery radars must be making life Hell for the Russians and taking a toll on equipment.

Now that I'm retired I took up drone flying and RC planes as a technical challenge and to learn a new skill. However increasing regulation and restrictions took much of the fun out of it for FPV flying drones and long range RC FPV. I have a license and stuff but one must fly in isolated places and not post videos online, videos are kinda what linked the FPV community together and even RC pilots who build and fly replicas models LOS are feeling the heat with remote ID and such. I can understand why though, these can be used as weapons of war and I've posted several videos of commercial and hobby drones and planes being used as very effective weapons of war. Indeed many of the military drones are creations of RC hobbyist engineers including suicide drones.

You can turn any FPV drone into an assassination weapon and with a small bomb or shaped charge you can kill a target from miles away, if conditions are right. You can buy Flight computers with GPS modules for under $100, that can guide an RC plane or a much larger drone to within a meter or two of it's target autonomously flying a complicated approach from nearly treetop height. Likewise you can control an RC plane with a 4G cellphone data dongle and fly very low wherever there is cellphone service. Parts from China are cheap as dirt.

This will give you an idea of what guys can get up to using a racing quad and what they are capable of, Switzerland has liberal drone laws.

Uncle Sam would not be alone in a war with China and China's economy would be fucked, despots stand on shaky ground as it is and it would cause social and economic instability as in Russia. The future belongs to those with the most friends and empires are not good at making friends with their neighbors, neither are despots who rule by fear. In modern war you need more friends than enemies and the US navy would not be the only navy or air force they would be up against by breaking international law and peace. The number of hulls in the water means little compared to the technology inside them and the weapons systems aboard them. Then there are the air forces operating from allied countries like Vietnam, another ally against China and Japan is greatly increasing the size of it's armed forces.
