Losing stickiness on top colas

Hey guys,

It’s my second time, on week 7 of flower. Running 250w hps. I was reading about light distance and gathered 25-35cm is the recommended height for a 250w, so I lowered it to 33cm above canopy. My buds got noticeably fatter, but with the lowering of the light, I seem to have lost the resin from them. They’re not sticky to the touch anymore, but the lower buds are very much so.

I’ve pulled the light about 50cm above again, as I figured it’s because I’ve had no fan blowing air around the top of the canopy, thus vaporising the resin.

could anyone throw me some ideas as to what it might be? Or if I’m correct in thinking it was no air circulation above the canopy?

ive dropped humidity as low as possible now, hoping it will help bring back the stickiness over the last two weeks.

it’s still covered in trichomes, but that lovely smell and stickiness that’s on the bottom buds just isn’t there anymore.


is there any way to salvage? Or have I ruined what was going to be something to be proud of?

You haven't ruined anything. Get your light back down to where they can tolerate it regarding heat. Stop paying so much attention to things you can't possibly know about and let your plant do what it does until it's ripe. Worry more about drying and curing, the things you can control.

this! and do you touch the tops of your plants alot? sounds like you do from the post and thats taking trichs off everytime

You haven't ruined anything. Get your light back down to where they can tolerate it regarding heat. Stop paying so much attention to things you can't possibly know about and let your plant do what it does until it's ripe. Worry more about drying and curing, the things you can control.

Ive dropped it back down to where it was. I’m a worrier! I just didn’t want to damage it anymore than I have (if any at all) but yeah I’ll just focus on getting that right. Thanks!

I have been recently, I was worried about it. I’ve probably made it worse by touching so much. I’ll keep my hands off her until it’s time harvest!

Are they in soil, hydro, what are you feeding? Sometimes flushing can cause this. I always like to dim or back off the lights as the plants ripen, also lower temps and reduced CO2 if enriching, this helps prevent foxtailing and other undesirable bullshit. A good ripening feed thats low in nitrogen but still has potassium, sulfur for terpene production. If in soil remember plants slow down on water consumption as they finish so make sure you are letting the soil dry out and not causing root rot as they finish.

Yeah, there’s still plenty of trichomes on the tops. I’d lowered the light about a week ago, and just thought maybe it’s because of that, the heat/light intensity has burned some of the stickiness off. But I’ve lowered it back to where it was (the first poster suggested).

maybe I’ll raise it just a little, to help with the temp above canopy. I have a fan underneath, but it’s too big to hang above and I’m unable to get a suitable one in the time I have left.

soil, terra pro plus. And I’m using advanced nutrients. The part b has 2-4-8 npk (Which is the only part I’ve used on flower).

What temperature should it not go above? And do I just point it at the affected buds?

if you keep touching your buds they will get less sticky, due to the fact that every time you touch them you are basically damaging the trichome heads

Take several readings at different areas on each plant near and on top...hps should be mid to high seventies at canopy.
