hey man, those are excellent looking buds. Way bigger than anything I got off my SLH plants. Now I'll just have to get me some more seeds and do another round to try and get something along the lines of yours. I love the big colas...

awesome vertical setup! i have a similar setup up in a tent but much smaller heh. Do you turn your plants so both sides face the light? If so how often and do you stop at a certain time? Someone else who was doing a vertical grow said that they stop turning their plants after about 5 weeks of flowering which i didn't understand.
I'm new to verical growing so it's all experimentatioin for me right now with it but I only turned the three Afghan plants that are on the floor. The autos and the Raspberry Cough all started growing towards the light right away so I didn't want to turn them and screw them up. I had to tie those plants back actually so they wouldn't fall over when the pot and buckets got light at watering time. The ones on the shelves I have just let do their own thing to see how they'd grow and I see now that they need a little help. I'm going to start training the plants during the first few weeks of flower going forward so they focus most of their growth towards the lights and plan on using one whole wall in there for a Scrog grow to give that a shot.

Thanks for stopping in.

So if your plants are just growing towards the light does the side that is not growing towards the light produce small/not as good buds? I can see my plants slowly edging toward the light as well but I have possible bud shoots on both sides and don't want to waste a whole side of bud heh

basically how are the sides that you haven't switched to face the light? And how were you going to train them? This is only my 2nd grow and certainly my first vertical hah It saddens me when I see the sides not facing the light covered in shade :( I might go out and get a few 2700k cfls to put around the shaded side and bottom though can't see it producing too much extra :\

There will always be a few popcorn buds on the backside with a vertical grow unless you're running something like a flooded tube or other hydro setup where you can tilt the pots towards the lights. You also have to really limit yourself on plant size to get results like that. Anything of substantial size will still have a tendency to grow shoots on the backside that will not see direct light.
I'll use some light LST on the plants for the first few weeks, tying the main stem and all branches on the sides and back of the plants down a little so they're bent towards the lights. Hopefully this will train the plant to focus growth in that direction and as they go through their stretch period, the branches will continue to grow towards the lights and then the majority of the budsites will get direct light.
I'm going to tie a few branches on the big Raspberry plant to the cables that the cooltube slides on tonight because they are on the sides of the plant kind of near the walls. I'm going to try to pull them a little closer to the cooltubes so the buds will get more intense light.

I'm still not cmopletely sold on the vertical style of growing and have kept my reflectors and stuff in case I decide to change it back. I wanted to give it a shot so I'll run some plants through and see if I can get it dialed in a bit. If I'm not happy with the results I'll re-hang the tubes horizontally and set up my hydro tables. Due to the size and shape of the rooms now, the lights will be over a 4'X5' area with the lights being end to end across the 5" dimension. I promised the wife I wouldn't be changing the rooms around again for a long time since it was such an ordeal this last time.

Something to take into consideratioin when you see branches and budsites on the shaded side of the plants is even with a conventional grow you will get popcorn buds or airy buds down towards the bottom of your plants without some pruning. You could always prune the growth on the shaded side of your plants off and they will focus their energy on the parts of the plant getting direct light. Just like if you prune off the lower branches of a plant on a conventional grow, they'll focus their energy on the upper parts of the plant that get the most intense light.

I'm not trimming mine off this time around and plan on using the stuff that's not on par with everything else for hash, butter, oil, etc.

I re-potted the Afghan clones into 1gal pots today and re-potted the larger Cat Kush and Headband plants into 3gal pots. All of the Afghan clones had a stellar looking root system in the cups and I think they were in desperate need of more room so they'll hopefully take off now that their in bigger pots. The Cat Kush and Headband were starting to grow funny so I figured it was time fo them as well and they had crazy amounts of roots too so I think they'll be happy in their new homes.
I now have 7 Afghan clones vegging in 1gal pots, 1 Headband from seed in a 1gal pot, 3 White Widow clones in 1 gal pots, 1 Headband seedling in a party cup, 2 DOG seedlings in party, 1 Purple Haze seedling in a party cup, a Cat Kush in a 3gal, 1 Headband in a 3gal, 1 White widow in a 5gal and 1 Jack Herer in a 5gal.
I think I've decided to go ahead and flower the Cat Kush and Headband once they have good amounts of new growth showing after the second round of topping I did a couple days ago. I was going to keep them around for mothers but I have other seedlings going and I have some seeds of other strains I want to try. Besides, there's already a couple of each of these two in flower going 12/12 from seed and there may be some lower branches that I can use for clones after these two show sex and what not.

I'll put up some pics later tonight of the veg room.

ahh i c what you mean. I may have to do some light LST as well once i decide which side i want to be the main one heh. I've already noticed on my LSD plant she has more bud sites on one side than the other so thats a no brainer. However my Great White Shark is very bushy all the way around so might have to mess around with her a bit. I'm with you on the vertical grow. With the right set up and room i bet its great however with my tiny tent horizontal might have been safer but too late now heh

Also how do you like the Afghan? I've heard a lot about this strain as a popular breed to cross with but never tried it. Hope your headband turns out good, thats a strain i'd like to try soon heh

This is the first time I've grown Afghan and am wishing I hadn't been in such a hurry to put under 12/12 lighting. I was worried about having a big lull between harvests so I threw a bunch of plants in the flower room early. These ended up staying very short, even for Indica strains. I've got a bunch of clones from them though so I'll see if I can make up for it with the clones by letting them grow.
I've had Headband before from a club and it was good, not my favorite but still a really nice strain. I'm really looking forward to the Cataract Kush from this group of strains. That and the Raspberry Cough has my attention since I don't know much about it and I've seen a few pics of finished buds of it that looked awesome.

Got a new piece in the mail today from faded glassworks that fits nicely in my pocket . If anyone is interested in some new glass, check out fdd2blk here on RIU. He puts out first class stuff and his prices are very reasonable.

This one is only 3.25" long and 1.25" wide.

hey dez thats a pretty cool lookin peice of glass ya got there almost too pretty to fire up i think youre right about pruning off the popcorn stuff on the shady side of the plant same as developing a canopy in a normal grow the strong thrive & the weak get choked out 2 of my 9 slh got choked out but the canopy was so thick its like those 2 plants were never there to begin with

They are numbered if you scroll over them you'll see the numbers.
001 is the veg room
002 is the seedlings (Purple Haze, Headband and 2 DOG pups)
003 is a Cataract Kush (closest to the camera) and a Headband
004 is the Jack Herer and White Widow mothers with a couple White Widow clones on the left
005 is all of the vegging clones (7 Afghan Kush and 3 White Widow)
006 is the top shelf on two walls with the four 12/12 from seed plants (2 Cat Kush and 2 Headband) and four Rspaberry Cough clones)
007 is the two autos
008 is of the first two clones taken from the White Widow and Jack Herer moms. Theyr were the original tops of the two plants.
009 and 010 are the top and bottom halves of the Raspberry cough that now stands tall at 5'4" from the floor, LOL.

I can't wait to harvest the RC plant because that should be the only time it comes out of the room. I plan on having the wife take a pic of it with me standing behind it or something.

The lower shelves are now empty so I can put more plants in for the harvest that's to follow what's on the upper shelves now. Only problem is that the plants I have now are all either too small or too tall for the shelves.

I sprayed everything for the mites tonight in both rooms. I figured I'd be able to spray the flowering plants better if I take them out so while they were out I took some pics without the HPS lights making everything yellow/orange.
I didn't remove the autos or the big Raspberry since they're tied to the wall but got the others.
I took some bud shots of the Afghan girls. The buds aren't big but there's a lot of them and they seem heavy. The branches are starting to sag out and stuff.

Thanks Treez.
I decided I really want some pollen and seeds of the Raspberry strain so I'm germinating 5 more reg seeds of it that will be going 12/12 from seed in party cups under CFL in a separate area so as not to pollenate my vert grow. So now I'll get to do a part ycup grow and get some seeds and pollen at the same time!
I'm going to stick a clone of each of 2 other strains in there to get done up by the Raspberry male too so I'll have a couple crosses. I'll pull whatever females and stick them in the vert room except one to get some seeds from along with the other two strains. I'm going to try and harvest some pollen too so I can cross it with another strain that I don't have going yet.

The reason I want the Raspberry strain is because of the sheer size that the one female I have going now is. That and it's very Sativa dominant so I think it'd be good to cross with others. Just too bad I didn't do this with one of the Afghan plants since they're pure Indica.

You'll have to keep me updated on your final weight from that SLH. I want to grow it again and am curious on what kind of yield is possible from growing that many plants of it. If I do grow it, I'll either try to my hands on a clone or two to grow out and take cuttings from or I'll have to a pack of seeds and go from there.
It'd be nice if you were ever to travel down this way. Then I could drive up and meet you somewhere to get a clone or three from you :-P
