probably the cheapest off the grid power is DIY windmill, provided you're willing to keep it modest sized a mill for a peak of 200 watts can be built for less than $100, provided you can get some cheap/free electric motors that can be tweaked into being generators but batteries drive up costs fast

if you're really off the grid, outside might be the easiest, pure and clean sunshine

i haven't grown out any growdoc gear, but did some reading a couple years back on his stuff because it sounded pretty good fro the price i think the official site for his drops are seed boutique/seed bay(sister sites) that said, i haven't seen a growdoc seed drop in a while

for small grows, i'm a one plant grower myself, the biggest bang for your buck is temperature keep the temps below 80 and a 1 small plant will have a very modest odor at least for the non stinkers, though there do seem to be some stinkers, even for a single plant
