they are small yet, and the lights are very close. I plan on doubling the light, 2 sets of 6 100 watt bulbs. that should get me by for a while. my next grow will be under a 600 watt hps
light, unless you don't plug it in
you can try it if you'd like. it probably wont work well without the right ballast. you could always take them back to the store and get a 150 watt hps
I've thought about getting a cheap hps like this just to get started, but the little lumens for the price, doesn't really seem worth it. how many plants do you think can be grown under a 150 hps? maybe 2 or 3?
1000 watt equivalent light, 100 watts of power usage. a smaller ballast might light the bulb, but it will under-power it and not give you all the light it would normally give off. burning out the ballast is also another possibility.
I feel left out... don't forget about the rest of us. we americans are assholes too
after all the equipment and supplies, then running the setup for 2 or 3 months, there really is a lot of money going into the hobby. but is it worth it? without a doubt.
yes, you're exactly right. the grow-media is what you grow in. rock wool, perlite, stone, sand, air..
mold is always a bad thing.. wipe EVERYTHING down with a disinfectant. try to keep the humidity down in the room to avoid it coming back.
I have 3 hoods made from 6 inch wide roof flashing. maybe I'll put together a how-to over the weekend. they are painted with ordinary spray paint, less then an inch from the bulbs, but only barely get warm to the touch when there's no fan moving air around it. works well for now, but I'm dieing...
the res can be changed every 2 or 3 weeks. if you have hard water, you might want to filter it or use bottled water. get good chemical nutrience, don't use anything like miracle grow or anything organic in hydroponics. good nutes have ph stabilizer in it so the ph shouldn't stray to far. just...
the diameter of the wheel would have to be about the same size as the distance you want the light to travel. a 3 foot travel distance would be a 3 foot diameter wheel. bbb might have a good solution, block and tackle. even just a single pulley would cut the diameter of the wheel in half.
as long as the smelly air is contained, it shouldn't be a problem. I would worry more about temps and humidity. the flower room is slightly more important then the veg room. I would pull fresh air into the flower room to help keep the temperature and humidity stable in there, then let the veg...
coffee stirrers are sometimes useful too. they're extremely cheap. put a little masking tape on the end of one and make a small flag to label the pots.
