check out whats possible in 300 gal smart pots: https://www.rollitup.org/outdoor-growing/362733-humboldtlocals-outdoor-2010-a.html
it may be goin a lil overboard but my theory is ur roots can never have too much room. i just never wanted to use pots because of the reduced yield as opposed to in the ground but im figuring if they never get rootbound its the exact same as in the ground only better because its all good soil without any native soil mixed in. and i figured they would never get rootbound in a 200 gal pot but its possible they would in 100 gal i suppose. i guess u can find out for sure when u harvest u will be able to check out the root system.
