Yea I'd say that jardin tent justugh picked out is a better buy. As for the light I think that is a good starter lighting system. Yes, the dimmable ballast are gimmicky and don't really work, but don't dim it. Buy a 600w ballast and use it at 100% power, problem solved with the dimming issue...

Looks good dude, I'd keep the fan where it is though. It's preferable to blow cool air over the light as opposed to sucking hot air out.

Forgot to mention that I also added a second 6in inline fan. So now I have one fan+filter dedicated just to scrubbing the air and one 6in inline that brings in cold air from outside, blows it across the light, and vents it right back in to the tent to cool it down.

I use MH through the first 1-2 weeks of flower then switch to HPS. If you have 1000w I'd just throw it in there I don't think switching from 600w to 1000w is going to do any but good things for your girls.

The short answer is yes, you can use a 400w mh or hps at a distance for seedlings but it is not optimal. If you have the option to dim it I would.

I'd roll with a cool tube 400w MH for veg, HPS for flower. Same advice though, you're going to have to exhaust somewhere because heat will be an issue. Or look in to CMH as I've heard they run cooler but idk that for sure....
