That's why I was interested. So far the NL #2 and #5 have been a nice comparison and wonderful blast from my past. Now that I have more seeds I can search down the genetic line at my leisure.

I would give a lot to find pure mexican brick weed seeds. The ones I casually tossed out. That clear, ceilingless high is something I've never found since then. Further it was weak enough you could simply enjoy smoking it and not worrying that unless you had max tolerance after three puffs you'd white out, like I had to warn the hub about C99.

I'm hoping I find that in the OH. Anyway love your journal, you do great work.
Thank you so much C2G! I really appreciate it. I know exactly the feeling you're searching for-I've never found that ceiling-less high in anything but landrace seeds. One of those was Vietnam Black, which I do have a single pack on pre-order from Snow High right now, along with his Colombian Gold, and Panama Red-all of which have a lot of potential. Blackbird Preservations sells pricey Vietnam Black repros too, which I would hazard to guess came from the same source.

One thing I'd like to do is grow some of the Colombian alongside my other Ohaze line, just to look for similarities. Colombian has a warm, soaring, happy high, which is similar to some of the great mexican bagseed plants I grew a long time ago. I'm also interested in those old Mexican lines, and they are in such a precarious state right now in terms of preservation. I also love the old Thai lines, but I find I need to start slow when I start smoking a top quality Thai because the high is of a type that demands respect. It's great for getting stuff done!.

One of my all time favorites was some Nigerian herb that a friend of mine grew several years back. It had a super potent, clear high, but without any anxiety, so I've got my little ESB plant going now, and I have some Nigerian Sunshine on the way from Swami, and I'm trying to track down some good Nigerian landrace seeds too.

Don't worry, we will find your ceilingless dream plant, I have no doubt!

Have a friend in Arizona bought a pound of that Mexican weed for $150 lol! Helped him out until he could get something stronger.

WHERE did you find Vietnam Black? I've been looking for years and can never find any. NOTHING I've ever smoked compares.

Blackbird Preservations at Seedsherenow, I got on the list for when it restocks and got the email the other day. Also, I believe Snow High is still doing preorders for the VB plants he's growing now and it's always cheaper to go through him directly. He actually is really focused on Vietnamese strains right now, you should definitely ask him for a current list. I wish I had the cash to pick up all his Vietnamese strains.

If he finds some seeds..... :) It isn't strong but I'm looking for the ceilingless high. I'm not sure that you could have that trait in high THC cannabis. But I think it could be attractive the less potent relatives. It's nothing like we have now. We lost that trait somewhere along the way.

NB: I've just edited this about 6 times. I'm calling it a day and declaring NL #5 the winner.

I had forgotten about this, but the last time I grew Sweet Tooth 10+ years ago this same thing happened. My friend who has a couple of them going now said both are doing the same thing. I bet it would do really well in a DWC setup (any kind of hydro really). It has roots on one side coming out of an air pot side hole and dropping down into the solution.

This is the Cindy that is getting Corn Starch Liquor @ 9 grams CSL per 5 liters of water, 2 ml TPS calmag, 1 g Epsom, and .5 g Potassium Bicarbonate. It's on par with the C99 getting Maxi series (both get .9 EC), and actually is just a shade darker when you see them in person. All plants have started flowering by day 12 after flip. I'm pretty happy with the state of the leaves at this point in the stretch phase-the nutrient solution seems balanced enough, but lets see how it does in flower.

Here is the super limey smelling C99 (which I think could end up grapefruit or any other citrus)-I cut it down to two branches and draped them right over a piece of aluminum foil taped to the sides, inside the plastic dome. So far so good, I've collected a tiny bit of pollen and might get started with it tonight.

I think some of those extra long Q-tips would be awesome here-I could stick it directly into the pollen without opening the lid much, or just stick it in through a side hole. It's more convenient than getting it off the bottom, which I tried first. I learned that you still need to vent these containers though, they build up moisture fast. I'm thinking of just removing all the fan leaves to reduce the RH and let them do their thing.

This is an amazing smelling plant, I will definitely use the pollen on the Sweet Tooth #4

I'll get pics of the girls tomorrow for my weekly update.

Sweet Tooth #4-One of the prettiest broadleaf varieties, imo.

Cinderella 99 #1-This is the plant getting my 100% CSL formula instead of Maxi series.

20221022_171752.jpg
C99 #2-This is a really vigorous plant so I pruned it the most. This plant is getting .9 EC Maxi grow/bloom, with 2 grams of CSL added per 3.5 gallons of nutrient solution. I love CSL as a replacement for Soy Hydrolysate-the amino acids really seem to help avoid any deficiencies during the stretch period.

So far I'm really pleased with how these are turning out. I made a lot of changes to my grow this round, smaller pots/plants, new light, 2 separate nutrients, different up potting/defol schedule, so I expected to have to do more troubleshooting. I'm surprised at how well the CSL formula is working-I honestly thought it wouldn't work out after my experience trying to veg a bonsai clone in it, but all it needed to work well was a bigger pot/root ball and a stronger light (and of course, the addition of Potassium Bicarbonate-the project was a disaster before I began adding that). Depending on how well the CSL finished, I might switch over to 100% CSL next cycle.

I increased my light one more notch, which I think is at 80% now, and raised the light up so it's about 2 ft from the canopy-the lux reads right about 60k directly in the center, and is low 40s farther out around the edges. I sometimes see some light damage at 60k lux and higher, so I'll keep an eye on the middle area. Maybe I'll look for par meter sales for black friday, I just always have a hard time prioritizing cool but non-essential gear over seeds lol.

I had emailed Impello Bio with my thoughts on their "Biofuel" corn starch liquor and they were super cool about it and are sending me a bottle of their new Monosilicic acid product called Dune to try out. I've only ever tried the Grow Genius brand before, so I'm very interested to see how this product in particular performs, knowing that Impello releases only quality products. In one of the years that the State of Oregon tested popular rhizobacteria supplements, Tribus contained more viable organisms than every other product tested combined (in total). I just like to see companies that at least strive to make product that actually contain what the label says-a rarity in the cannabis grow industry.

Oops, I actually meant to say this first, but yesterday I pollinated a bunch of plants, the one's I've shown for this journal, as well as the ones at my friend's house, at 2.5 weeks in. The buds have plenty of hairs at this stage, I won't get a ton of seeds, but it really sucks to pollinate with huge buds around and then end up with the mother of all seeded crops. I wanted to compare the two "good" c99 males we kept, the super limey one and the old bananas smelling one. I haven't dealt with males in years, so I was careful not to allow too many pollen sacs to form-two branches heavily pruned was plenty. So next year I'll have Swt#4 x C99 seeds from multiple males/females to hunt through, as well as Strawberry Cough x C99, ESB x C99, and we also hit my friend's Elvis x ACC RKS (and a couple others) with the citrus C99 male. Those should make for a fun cycle after my next Original Haze grow. I have another friend who lives about an hour away, and I'm thinking of actually just mailing him a test tube with some mixed C99 pollen so he can hit his girls too, I don't want to drive over there just for that.

Also, I ended up moving my light up a few more inches. It's very strong at 80% and I like the intensity and coverage at 30 inches distance. The power of this fixture really reminds me of an HID, the good parts of HID, without the bad parts-the scary bulbs.

My ESB male just started dropping pollen last night, this was the last male to drop:

I'll use this ESB pollen on a couple of buds each on a C99 and Sweet Tooth #4. I really enjoy the quality of high that each of these strains produce, so I think these crosses could be fun although ESB isn't a stable line. I think the C99 F4s will make good breeding material if I can find a good one.

Male plants still look so weird to me. I have that same dome, Love it.
Yeah! I actually bought 2, I like them so much, plus extensions. It's nice to have a tray that you can trust not to bend too, I'm sure they'll last a lifetime. I realized one thing I really like about males is how soon you can collect their pollen after 12/12, then you can just be done with them.

Oh wow, that's a solid idea. I may try that. How long do you have to wait to collect male pollen after the flip?

I have some mr nice mango haze on the way for the next grow in January and was planning on making seeds. How do you spread the pollen that you've collected? would an artists brush work?

My critical orange punch ended up seeded >:( And not just a few lol. I didn't catch it during flower.

No worries, seeded weed is great! Some oldtimers think it even improves the quality somehow...I can't remember the rationale behind that idea, but I've heard it more than once . I'd hang onto those seeds. If you didn't see any evidence of a hermie, it was probably just a few bananas, so you probably have some nice feminized seed there. An artist brush would probably work awesome, I was thinking about picking up some cheapy brushes for this too. I just used Q-tips-they work fine but they also hang onto a lot of pollen, I think a brush would do a better job of spreading it. If you spread the pollen right after it drops, while still moist, it doesn't fly everywhere (well, not like dry pollen does anyway). I can already see the hairs that I pollinated start to shrivel, kind of exciting.

Mango haze sounds really good. Some of the best weed from my hazy memory from long ago was Mango Thai. I've always felt that mango=quality a lot of the time. Some Indian landrace strains have a potent mango flavor too, and haze is such a neat combo of the best NLD plants from these regions.

I used a set of watercolor brushes. I didn't have a ton of errant seeds from painting buds with them, either. Just found a single seed so far, after flowering the "male" in the same room but a different tent. The tips of the brushes I used were nylon.
