Tasty GM crops, or insecticides... you decide

I buy local grass fed beef (you can find it on craigslist). I feed my chickens organic feed & let them free range, the eggs & meat are excellent. Organic isn't hard to do..........."Rocky & Rosie".....

I've tried organic/free range/cage free/whatever products curious to see if I could perceive any difference in taste and quality, but I usually find that there is none. I was actually quite disappointed, because people have raved to me about how much better cage free eggs and organic free range chicken is. I have definitely perceived differences in organic fruits and vegetables versus conventional ones, so I don't know what to make of this.

You can't taste the difference?

Do you smoke tobacco or have some disease that causes your taste buds to not work?

Have you ever seen what a large commercial egg farm looks like? If that don't put a bad taste in your mouth I don't know what would. My chickens are happy all day.....commercial egg chickens can't turn around!.......you are what you eat....

Interesting. Do you really think you could pass a double bind, taste test, blindfolded?

Maybe. It is worth try. But, if you think it tastes better, I don't. ( Never had tobacco.)

I think homegrown tomato taste better, but not that they are organic. Just they not processed with gas and the ripening was in the sun...not in a control way during transit.

I cannot taste the difference in free-range chicken, organic eggs, salad greens, vegggies...

You might find that in a strict taste test, you may not either. But, you could.

Peas taste weird to some, but not me.

I could EASILY pass that test. Blindfold me and my rate of successfully picking the organic egg from the white mass produced one would be 100%. The tase isn't even close, in fact the little white eggs they sell in the store don't even have any taste.

Store bought eggs have a milky yellow yolk, these big fresh ones I eat have an almost orange appearance and have stunning taste.
Perhaps the eggs you got from the organic side weren't from good stock? Drive down a country road and buy direct from the source.

the "organic" and "cage free" labels on eggs are completely meaningless.

find yourself a local farm and take a drive. buy some eggs there. you will notice the difference.

“Free Range,” “Cage Free,” “Organic”…what does it all mean? Marketing labels are perhaps the most confusing part of this whole “eating healthy” game. So what do the various terms you see on the packages mean?

  • Conventional*(i.e., no special label) – Typically less than half a square foot of space per hen, giving not even enough room to spread their wings.
  • Cage Free*– As it says, the hens are able to move about inside a barn without being confined to cages. A better life, but not optimal as parts of beaks are often burned to prevent pecking at themselves and others (a sign of distress, by the way).
  • Free Range*– Implies chickens on lush green pastures. Actually is not a regulated term for eggs so this can be used by absolutely anyone. Really all that’s needed is a door to the outside that gives the chickens “access” to an outdoor area, whether they actually use it or not. This is a meaningless term.
  • Organic*– This means the hens were fed organic feed, whatever that feed consists of. I think it also means no animal by-products in the feed.
  • Vegetarian*– The hen is fed a vegetarian feed. I only mention this to point out that chickens are omnivores, not vegetarians, and will naturally eat bugs, grubs, etc. This term is used to imply “healthier” in our anti-meat culture.
As you can see, few of the terms on the egg carton actually mean a whole lot. Other than “organic” and “vegetarian,” it’s pretty useless. But there’s one more term that actually means what you want it to mean. “Pastured” means the chickens were raised on pasture, with access to the sun, grass, bugs, and possibly supplemented with grains and other feed.

i agree that free range, organic, and other labels they put on egg cartons ect is just a marketing ploy.

it is always best to call the company and ask specifically what free range means to them generally its just a bit more space for the chickens but not enough

If the bad taste is based on a picture, it would just be in my head...

This is probably the best explanation. The perceived difference the ravers claim to notice is probably purely psychological, based on the higher prices and the labels (since I know the people I know aren't trekking out to farms but getting stuff from grocery stores); they're just paying more money for pretty much the same food.

"Organic" label means NO GMO.........that's a big difference right there......

Genetically modified stuff sux...kinda like inbred people...they still ARE people...but kinda NOT at the same time...

You people who are in favor of GM stuff, watch "Deliverance" again and rethink your stance...

You can't taste the difference?

If you're not used to eating it and were not brought up on it you wouldn't be able to taste the difference... Man, home made "wog" food with ingredients straight outta the garden, that you've grown yourself, is the bomb!

LOL!

I was waiting for the GM debate to hit RIU.

Have fun with this one...It's a shit storm, and Bill Gates is the main man. And you can bet your ass he believes in thinning the heard.
He is a firm believer in eugenics.

There is no way to win at this point. They are already creating "terminator" plants that terminate seeds after one harvest. Forcing farmers to return to the seed market year after year. Eventually there will be no heirloom seeds left, and the gm seeds that have been MODIFIED TO BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND LARGE AMOUNTS OF ROUNDUP, will be all that is left.

GM crops have been show to cause intestinal problems, digestive problems, and cancer. And this is just short term studies.

Pretty much all of our corn and soy at this point is gm.
They are moving to create a gm version of pretty much every crop out there. World wide.
Monsanto is even paying farmers to spray experimental cococtions of chemicals on crops.

Control the food, control the people.

Anyways, I have said my peace....have fun with your debate.

Start saving your heirloom seeds NOW, because soon...you won't have any other option than to grow and eat poison.

I forgot to mention that their master'debating 'skills' (barely) swayed 1 out of 6 RIU voters into choosing 'deliverance'

Could care less about voters.

I do care about you sharing bullshit and misinformation.

Lucky for you PT Barnum was correct.

edit: what's even funnier is the majority voted undecided. You didn't sway shit yourself.

Proved one thing. He is a total, gloves off, Hippy, Counter Culture, Satan worshiper. They Worship Monsanto.

They are nothing without it. What next on Anti-Con, if Mosanto changes it's name to something else?

Depends?
