My tap water reads 0 ppm....

Yeah, again, lots of things will work for different situations. Depending on your need, maybe a tall boy is better than an inline hose filter? Or maybe you just want to hook up an inline filter to your hose and blast away? From Microbeman aka Tim Wilson: One must, of course use water which is...

Recycled Organic Living Soil (ROLS) and No Till Thread

Didn't want to spend time searching, but I think it might have been in this thread where people were talking about the aloe skin vs the gel. This talks about the gel. P-

My tap water reads 0 ppm....

A tall boy does not come with a kdf filter. You will need to purchase that separately, and it isn't cheap. Again, not really sure if this is needed. I would do a little digging into what is added to your water supply. I'm not sure how rampant chloramine use is. If you are talking the inline hose...

    Is this soil mix ok???

Yes, promix is pretty much just peat and perlite. From Coot: But here’s the biggest reason to start with straight Sphagnum peat moss – the straight bales are packed onsite. The material destined for mixes like Sunshine Mix #1 or Pro-Mix, etc. is run through a kiln to remove water thereby...

My tap water reads 0 ppm....

I have to admit I'm still using an RO system with a kdf-85 filter. However, I don't advocate this, and I don't think it is necessary. It's on my todo list to do a little research and find something like this...

    Is this soil mix ok???

^^^^Yup, this. Plus promix/sunshine gets sent through a kiln before shipping to reduce the weight. Not good for the beneficial microbes that are in peat. Also, I'm always an advocate of using some pumice or lava rock over perlite, which promix has a lot of. ;) Thanks guys, I'm still learning...

My tap water reads 0 ppm....

You do not have a whole house RO system. I'd be willing to bet on that. Don't ask your property management. For Chloramine, I'm pretty sure an RO unit does not take it out unless you have a KDF-85 carbon filter in it. P-

    Is this soil mix ok???

If you want to save some money, go to home depot or lowes and buy a bale of peat. I pay about $12 where I am. The hydrostore is going to try and sell you promix. P-

Recycled Organic Living Soil (ROLS) and No Till Thread

I think it's safe to say we are all a little bit of organic/plant nerds lol. I'd get some strange looks bringing this up in casual conversation on the street! This is from What a Plant Knows: The amazing characteristics of the Venus flytrap led Charles Darwin, who was among the first...

@Midwest Weedist Have you read how the venus flytrap senses it's prey, and why it doesn't close when water hits them? Fascinating imo. P-

SST (sprouted seed tea) do's and donts?

AFAIK, this is something new from Gil. I don't remember seeing that on the site before. I'm not sure what the benefits of fermenting SST's would be? P-

    Is this soil mix ok???

Fam, I hear you on this being a lot of work. Hang in there. The more you learn, the more it will all make sense. I only have experience using GRD and basalt at the ratios mentioned. I would not use Soft Rock Phosphate, especially not at those ratios. Maybe someone that has more expeerience using...

    I love this Coot quote: Let’s look at Chlorophyl in all forms…… Chlorophyll a – C55 H72 O5 N4 Mg – i.e. a single Magnesium ion Chlorophyll b – C55 H70 O6 N4 Mg – single Magnesium ion Chlorophyll c1 – C35 H30 O5 N4 Mg – single Magnesium ion Chlorophyll c2 – C35 H28 O5 N4 Mg – single Magnesium...

SST (sprouted seed tea) do's and donts?

Gil carandang promotes fermenting them. I have not tried it, but I can't imagine fermentation being a good thing for enzymes and plant growth hormones. http://theunconventionalfarmer.com/sprouted-seed-tea/ P-

Interesting find for insect frass users

Crab meal is full of chitin. Without a lab report showing us chitin amounts I could not say how they compare. The way I see it, IF my soil needed a microbe boost, vermicompost does the job. If I need Chitin, crab meal is in my soil adding calcium carbonate, chitin, etc. I use seed sprout teas...

Interesting find for insect frass users

I don't use insect frass. While I think it could be beneficial to have some dead bugs in your soil, I'm not about to pay big bucks for it. Way too much marketing for my taste. For people interested in Chitin/chitinase/chitosan maybe read the following: A Copy/paste from...

Recycled Organic Living Soil (ROLS) and No Till Thread

I'm curious how many of the veteran organic growers are literally cooking their soil to kill 'the bad guys'? I'm going to guess few to none. When we build a strong organic soil we create an environment that is advantageous for the beneficials, and a real mofo for anything we don't want in there...

Someone was asking about liming on another site. Thought I'd post this up from Coot. Okay – the first goals of wanting Calcium & Magnesium are good we’ll stipulate. Whether or not you need a mineral amendment to achieve that will be put aside. Dolomite Lime is used in ‘the real world’ when a...

this a good soil mix ??

Subtool's soil mix is subpar. The Rev is in the same boat. Bunch of tools trying to make million on stoner science. Read the ROLS/no-till thread - at least the first part of it, and do some non-cannabis forum reading. My 2¢, P-

    Is this soil mix ok???

Hey Fam! Sorry it's a little late and I'm medicated. :p Mycorrhizal fungus becomes foodstock if it does not colonize roots. Therefore, adding it to a soil mix is pretty much wasting it. On the Botanicare, imo the two styles do not mix. You either build the soil food web and feed the soil, or...
